"Overcoming Offence"
Matt 18:7  Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man
by whom the offense comes!  NKJV
This is one of the most important issues of our day.  If you just listen to the conversations
around you every day, you will hear offense.  It is very widespread with very little resistance.
This is an issue that is very widespread in the Body of Christ as well.  Many church splits are as
a direct result of offense. This verse sums up the person who stays in offense.  Woe actually
means a lot of grief.  The truth is: you do not have to stay in offense.  There is a way out of it.
But the ultimate solution will be choice.  So before you can overcome it you must first know
what it is.
Offence: NT:4625 ska/ndalon  ("scandal"); probably from a derivative of NT:2578; a trap-stick
(bent sapling), i.e. snare (figuratively, cause of displeasure or sin): KJV - occasion to fall (of
stumbling), offence, thing that offends, stumblingblock.
It is first and foremost a stumbling block.  The original Greek word is where we get our English
word scandal from.   I also want to define stumble and scandal to break down the definition
more.
Stumble: 1 trip or momentarily lose one's balance.  2 walk unsteadily.
Scandal:  1 an action or event regarded as morally or legally wrong and causing general public
outrage.  2 outrage, rumor, or gossip arising from this.  -ORIGIN Latin scandalum 'cause of
offence', from Greek skandalon 'snare, stumbling block'.
There is a lot of information in these definitions.   If you get snagged by offense, it will cause
you to trip and become trapped in the prison of your mind, being held captive by an enemy
spirit.  Many people that I have met over many years, have been trapped by offence.  They are
angry and they want everyone to know what or who they think their problem is.   When a
person is offended, they are on a rabbit trail in their mind that leads to destruction.  The solution
is to forgive!     Continued next week…
