“The Last Enemy II”
By Christopher J. Hardwick
1 Cor 15:53-55 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must
put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this
mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is
written: "Death is swallowed up in victory." 55 "O Death, where is your sting? O
Hades, where is your victory?" NKJV
Last week I talked about death being the last enemy and we have to treat death as
an enemy. We must become aggressive towards it! Any form of sickness comes
from the root of death and so therefore we must treat it as an enemy and use
absolute authority against it!
According to this scripture, Death is going to be swallowed up in victory! How
does it happen? The corruptible will put on incorruption! So the next thing to do
would be to define Corrupt.
Corrupt: 1 willing to act dishonestly in return for money or personal gain. 2 evil or
morally depraved. 3 (of a text or computer data) made unreliable by errors or
alterations. 4 archaic rotten or putrid. >verb 1 make corrupt. 2 archaic infect;
contaminate. -ORIGIN from Latin corrumpere 'mar, bribe, destroy'.
This is a very big clue as to what really has to change. We do! We must begin to
renew our minds with proper behavior. We must become willing to be honest. We
must be motivated not by our own personal gain. We must not practice evil or act
in a morally depraved way. Corruption is closely associated with death. Lets
look back, when the first murder was committed. Cain was jealous of Abel and
very angry because God accepted Abel’s offering, instead of his and he killed
him! Look at Gods instruction to Cain before he murdered Abel. This is simple
instruction, for us, if we recognize, the same attitudes in us. This is satans #1
strategy is get us to come in agreement with death.
Gen 4:6-7 So the Lord said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your
countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not
do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it."
NKJV
1 Cor 15:56-57 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But
thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. NKJV
Sting: NT:2759 GREEK> kentron (ken'-tron); from kenteo (to prick); a point
("centre"), i.e. a sting (figuratively, poison) or goad (figuratively, divine impulse):
KJV - prick, sting.
The sting or poison of death comes from sin. The sin issue was dealt with when
Jesus went to the cross. So if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation. Death
was already overcome by Jesus at the cross. But our minds must be renewed to
life and our behavior must line up with life. The way that will happen is when we
walk by the guidance of the Holy Spirit and not by feelings, insights or intellect. We
must look at our motive for doing what we do. Is our motive self centered or God
centered? Does it produce life or death? Do we have real peace? Cont. next
